Acknowledging how systems of privilege, power, and oppression destroy the environment and place disproportionate burdens on vulnerable communities is integral to our understanding of how we are impacted by environmental and health challenges.

The conservation movement has a dark history peppered with racism and silent complicities that modern environmental leaders such as the Organic Center must continue to reverse. Without solving the roots of the disproportionate environmental and health impacts of the racist structures that plague our society, we cannot address environmental degradation or climate change.

Organic research is built on the goal of ecological and human health.  Racial justice is a critical component of these tenets, and without holding social equity as a central principle of our work we cannot have a healthy food system.

The Organic Center welcomes, values, and relies on a diversity of people, cultural experiences, and perspectives, and we are committed to dismantling racism and supporting those fighting against oppression.
